CREATURES OF THE OTHERWORLD,
• Vampires, • Werewolves, • Witches More to come.
The creatures of the Otherworld are just that, creatures. They are not and were never human except in general appearance. In earlier years of their crossings to the mortal world, they were completely and utterly savage and untamed; without speech or any kind of communication. However, overtime, they have developed human qualities; their languages, social graces, tendencies and habits. They’ve studied and learned to mimic their nature in a way that predators might.
None of the creatures can withstand staying in the mortal world for exceedingly long periods of time. They cross over when the equinox occurs, and stay for however long they can. Some can last a year, whiles others can only last the maximum of a day. They can only enter the mortal world at the equinox, however getting back into their Otherworld is no hassle, even without it. They simply have to cross through the forest border down Mappleberry Lane.
The Otherworld is a world of supernatural creatures that loathe each other with a passion. Their world once used to be wondrous and magnificently beautiful, but at some point in a blank part of their time, the world digressed and became the dead, decayed, dark place that it is now. A heavy, thick mist cloaks and thickens the air they breathe; the sun has been lost for a very long time. The mortal world is a toxin to the creatures. Only the very strong-willed can withstand it. The air is too breathable; too clean in comparison to the pollution they’re used to. The sun is a stinging sensation; it burns the vampires, entices the wolves and irritates the witches. The overall reality of our world is a painstaking heaven for them all; but one they can never quite grasp, clutch onto and hold forever. It hurts them too much.
VAMPIRES,
are one of the most lethal of all the creatures to have come from the Otherworld. They’re ethereal and seemingly untouchable, beautiful in their own right and wholly entrancing. Masked by a perfectly that hides their true, ugly nature, vampires are actually one of the most savage creatures from the Otherworld, even more so than the Werewolves. But they’re elegantly savage. Behind their calm, domineeringly enticing demeanour is an uncontrollable, passionate raging personality that differs from vampire to vampire. They can snap at any given moment, at any time over any little insignificant thing. They’re a dangerous creature to be around, not only because of that, but also for the fact that human’s find them utterly irresistible. All they see is a pretty face, liquid eyes and an enchanting smile. They don’t see the pointed fangs or the flash of black in their eyes, only what they want to. It’s almost impossible from them to deny a vampire’s charm.
Vampires are the only creatures from the Otherworld that rely on a food source of blood. It’s a constant craving for them and their hunger is never sated, no matter how much they feed. They feed on any creature with strong blood that they can get their fangs into; wolves, witches, even their own kind. The most fulfilling blood they can ever drink is that of a human. It’s a sweet, addictive drug that after having one drop of, a vampire will never be rid of an intense need for it again. Most vampires stay clear of a human’s blood for that single reason. Because once they had the craving for it, they would be stuck with it for eternity. However, sometimes the temptation is irresistible, and mistakes will be made. If the vampire does not drain the human they bite, completely, the human will be infected with their venom. Depending on the strength of the human, they can be transformed into a vampire, however it is very rare.
Vampires generally avoid fights. Their abilities are suited towards hunting their dinner and charming innocent little humans. They’re unimaginably fast, yes, and one bite from them is potentially lethal to lesser creatures of the otherworld and their strength is above normal, but no match for a Werewolf’s.
WEREWOLVES,
are the dogs of the Otherworld. Feral in nature and completely territorial, they are bound by animalistic tendencies even when in their ‘human’ form. Their human form which was only adapted and developed for the mere purpose that it was the only way they could get close to humans in the mortal world; humans who they are allured to by instinct and a specific craving. Depending on the werewolf, these cravings can range from love to lust, predator to protector, or a peculiar craving to have something to love and be loved by in return. In their own packs, werewolves are vicious and vile towards each other, generally not getting along at all unless related by blood. Humans are the closest they can get to experience a love which they, deep down, utterly need.
Werewolves are strongly controlled by their emotions and instincts. They get into too many fights and are pigheaded and snarly. They’re prideful and too stubborn for their own good. But they’re cute and generally adorable in that dog, puppy-ish kind of way. They’re carnivores, but they’ll usually eat anything in sight that’s edible – and sometimes mistakenly something that’s not so edible. Vampires taste absolutely vile to them, but they have a keen taste for woodland fairies.
Werewolves are usually the ones starting fights. In human form, they’re still extremely strong, quick footed and they have a very mean growl. In the mortal world, it’s quite difficult for them to shift back into their natural form. Only the some of the strongest and most controlled are capable of doing so, and only at night when a full moon occurs. If they attempt to shift during the day, they are severely weakened.
WITCHES,
are the strongest of all of the Otherworld creatures. They’re the top of the food chain, the most revered throughout the world. But they were not always so strong. They were the first race to find their way into the Otherworld. Ugly, dark creatures with blackened souls and sticky fingers, Witches used to be rather weak and slow. They were capable of little, insignificant magic tricks; they could make a small object disappear into nothing, force a slight confusion upon someone, give them a nasty boil or flu. But they were no threat. Thousands of years ago, however, that all changed. A Witch found herself thrown into a different world after having travelled a little too far into the unknown depths of the Otherworld’s forest. Around that time, the Otherworld wasn’t as dead as it is today, and so it wasn’t altogether too difficult for the Witch to survive there. It was still difficult to breathe, sure, but she could survive.
And survive she did, almost too well. She came across a little girl under a tree. It was a strange creature, and the witch hated it for its normality. It wasn’t ugly like she was. It had a perfect little button nose and rosy cheeks, and it smiled too much at her and held her hand like she wasn’t any different. But upon holding its hand, the Witch felt a jolt of electricity and it was strength. Strength seeping into her essence and she thrived in it. But when she looked down, the little girl wasn’t smiling anymore, and her cheeks weren’t rosy. It's eyes were closed and it was sagging too the ground in a crumpled heap. It turned to ash and bone before the Witch could poke and prod at it.
The Witch returned to the Otherworld to share the tales of her experience to the rest of her Coven, and from there the creatures exploited the secrets to their true strength. Humans fed their essence, made them stronger. By absorbing their lives, the Witches could thrive and do things none of the creatures in the whole of the Otherworld had ever thought possible. They could make fire, change their appearance, make illusions and overpower the other creatures through them. Some could turn others into toads, into mushrooms and turtles and simply to dust. They would use up the essence they stole, and then covet more humans away from the mortal world to rejuvenate. They turned into even uglier, viler creatures. Obsessively craving more and more power with every soul they consumed.
